2008 proved to be a great year for the Security trade show. A record number of exhibitors - 1100 - presented their products and services in all aspects of security adn fire prevention. Another record number - 40,850 trade visitors from 115 countries came to the fair. The exhibitors originated from 42 nations. The 480 international exhibiting companies and associations produced a rise of more than 10%.

Security 2008 proved to be the meeting point for the decision makers  and experts from the industry. The largest sector of visitors was manufacturers of security installations, members of industry and resellers. However, other visitors included police, fire service, insurance companies, & security guard companies. The international visitors came primarily from European countries as well as from Asia and America. They were not only interested in hold up, intruder and theft alarm equipment, but also in fire, smoke and gas warning equipment.

For the first time, Fire Protection had a hall all to itself. Hall 12 was well visited and  the quality of visitors was extremely high. The products in the Fire Prevention section were rounded off by the Fire Protection Day with a large number of demonstrations as well as by subject-specific podium discussions at the open forum in hall 12.

Many new products and innovations were displayed at the show. New possibilities of video surveillance due to improved camera technology were presented as were access control systems by means of hand vein recognition and tiny smoke detectors which sound alarms earlier thanks to gas sensors.

There were open forums in halls 4 and 12 which offered over 160 specialist lectures, discussion circles and live demonstrations. The speakers at the open forum in hall 4 drew attention to the dangers on the internet. The forum in hall 12 focused on security management and fore protection.

For the first time ever, Messe Essen will join the Russian trade show organizer BIZON and implement a Security Russia trade show. This show will take place simultaneously with Interpolitex, the well established Russian security trade show at the All Russia Exhibition Complex in Moscow.
