Metpack, which just took place April 22-26, 2008, proved itself as the most important fair for metal packaging. Over 7,000 visitors from more than 105 countries emphasized this significance. Two-thirds of the trade visitors came from abroad.

The mood of the metal packaging industry is overwhelmingly positive. More than half of the visitors, which is considerably more than in 2005, estimate that the economic development will produce an upward trend in the future. The exhibitors declared that they were extremely satisfied with the course of the fair and expect a good post-fair business. Results from a survey showed that one in four visitors signed a contract with the exhibitors. The proximity of the Interpack trade fair taking place in Düsseldorf at the same time was welcomed by 60% of the visitors who attended both fairs.

Many companies at Metpack develop their innovations specfically for the trade fair in order to present them to the sector for the the first time. For this reason, Messe Essen has established the prestigious Metpack Innovation Award.The award is presented to the company which has made a substantial development in the field of metal packaging. This year the award was presented to Soudronic AG, a Swiss based company for its adaptive canbody system.
